Help Democrats Take Back The House!
Dear Friends,
Historically, the end of August has seen many impactful moments in America’s ever-unfolding story. The 19th Amendment was certified on August 26, 1920, guaranteeing women the constitutional right to vote — an anniversary that we now celebrate as Women’s Equality Day. August 28th, 1955, brought the brutal, tragic murder of Emmett Till and, 8 years later, Dr. King’s I Have A Dream Speech during the March on Washington in 1963. In 2005, we saw the landfall of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, again on August 28, and on that same date three years later — Barack Obama’s historic acceptance of the Democratic nomination for President.
Each of these powerful moments speaks to the resilience and wisdom of the American people when asked to choose between the darker demons or the better angels of our nature.
With less than 70 days until Election Day, we face a choice again about who we are as a nation. Will we continue to be subject to the horrible whims of a wannabe dictator empowered by a Congress that abolished itself in the interest of cruelty, greed and tax breaks for the rich? Or will we choose a future rooted in our shared values of hope, equality, fairness and beloved community — a future that protects our most vulnerable, invests in our children, respects the environment and makes healthcare accessible and affordable for all of us.
Republicans are trying to sabotage vote by mail and pushing their so-called SAVE Act — an attack on millions of women whose legal names don’t match their birth certificate, our service members and voters overseas. If our votes don’t matter — as some claim — why are Republicans moving heaven and earth to stop Americans from voting? Republicans know they are on track to lose the midterm elections because their cruel policies have made life harder and more expensive for working families. The American people are ready to VOTE THEM OUT and elect Democrats who will protect the right to vote and not let our voices be silenced.
Gas prices are through the roof and grocery prices are already sky-high, and families now forced to throw away that food because of safety recalls — after this Administration gutted food inspections. That’s money down the drain and lives at risk because MAGA Republicans deny science and think their job is to protect corporate profits, not the people. Together, we can VOTE THEM OUT and elect champions who will protect our food, the workers that provide it and work to make groceries more affordable.
American Democracy is free and fair elections, freedom of the press, independent judiciary, rule of law, due process, separation of power — but not under this president. The role of the government is to serve the will of the people and make their lives better, not to extract personal wealth at the expense of the people and make them less safe — but not under this Administration. The American people are seeing the price that they are paying as a result of the rampant, unprecedented corruption at every level of this Administration. That is why Democrats must and will win in November — by saving our Democracy at the kitchen table.
Just like generations before us who faced tough times together, we are not complacent, we are not scared and WE ARE NOT GOING BACK. We are reaching out to voters, talking about issues that matter and creating connections that empower others to take action. Democrats will win the House and we will make Hakeem Jeffries Speaker of the House — For The People.
