This week, we celebrated the 61st Anniversary of Medicare and Medicaid — pillars of health and financial security for the American people alongside Social Security and the Affordable Care Act.
At the same time, we are also painfully aware of the harm that the President and his MAGA Republican enablers have inflicted with their Big Ugly Bill. Republicans gave massive tax cuts to their billionaire donors on the backs of the most vulnerable Americans — cutting $1 trillion from Medicaid, half a trillion dollars from Medicare and hundreds of billions of dollars more from SNAP benefits. And just this week, the Administration announced plans to end a Democratic subsidy program that cuts the cost of prescription drugs for seniors. The Republicans’ callous, heartless actions know no end.
Well before this chaotic, cruel Administration began, we warned you that this President and MAGA Republicans in Congress would be coming for your healthcare. They pretended to care by promising to protect Medicare at first but showed their true selves by voting for and passing the Big Ugly Bill aimed at dismantling our American Safety Net. Republicans knew the harm and destruction they would cause and did it anyway. With control of the House, the Senate and the White House — Republicans have done NOTHING to help anyone other than themselves and their ultra-rich MAGA donors.
The Big Ugly Bill tells us all we need to know about MAGA Republicans — including the fact that we must end their reign of terror this November by taking back Congress! Democracy is not saved by waiting for someone else to fix it. It is saved by people showing up, telling the truth and building power.
