News From Nancy: Save Our Voting Rights

Help Democrats Take Back The House!

Friends,

The right to vote is the most sacred right we have in our Democracy — one that countless individuals from all corners of life have marched, fought, bled, and died for.

The passage of the Voting Rights Act brought an end to Jim Crow through legislation. With the Louisiana vs. Callais decision this week, the Supreme Court has dealt a devastating blow to the Voting Rights Act and our sacred right to vote.  The consequences will be felt across the country: fewer voices heard, fewer communities represented and a Democracy diminished.

This rogue Court’s decision is just another step in an extreme Republican strategy of voter disenfranchisement and a direct attack on the rights we hold dear — life, liberty, beloved community and the right of all people to have a voice in their government.

As our moral leader, John Lewis, taught us — we don’t despair, we fight back to protect our sacred right to vote and one another.  We will fight this vile, unfortunate ruling through litigation, legislation, and mobilization. This is our clarion call to organize and vote to elect a House and Senate that will pass voting protections for all of us. When we WIN, we must PASS the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Act and our HR 1 for universal nonpartisan redistricting — bills our House Democrats passed twice during my Speakership —  but Senate Republicans filibustered.

Since this disastrous Administration began, you — our VIPs — have been hard at work.  We’ve been organizing to save our healthcare.  We’ve been winning special elections across the country.  We organized and passed the YES campaign in Virginia.  We won Prop 50, and in a few short days, we will begin voting here in California. We must keep doing all we can to contact voters, give them the information they need to turn out in force.  Join our phone banks here: https://linktr.ee/teampelosi

This is all very disappointing and upsetting. Yet now, more than ever before, we must remember our power in all of this. As generations before us have done, we must now do our part to protect and expand the right to vote for all Americans.  We will keep fighting, we will keep organizing, and we, the people, will prevail.

We don’t agonize, we organize!

Thank you for what you do for our Democracy and for one another.
