News From Nancy - Pride Edition

Help Democrats Take Back The House!

Dear Friends,

Thank you to our Volunteers in Politics – our amazing grassroots VIPs who have been phone banking with us for months now to Save Our Health Care! I am so grateful for you.

Every day of every month I am proud to represent San Francisco. It is a special privilege to do so during Pride Month as I bring our San Francisco values of love, respect, unity, and community with me everywhere I go.

We celebrate and cherish the beauty, bravery and brilliance of our LGBTQ+ community. Pride Month is a powerful reminder that love triumphs over hate – and that our march for justice, dignity and equality continues on. And this Pride month is a celebration of our values, as they are under attack and attempted erasure by the Trump Administration.

When we talk about celebrating Pride month, we are also talking about uplifting community, healthcare and patient rights. In San Francisco, we remember the darkest months of the start of the HIV/AIDS crisis, when many of us were visiting the hospital constantly and attending two funerals a day. Today, we are blessed to be able to celebrate the birthdays, weddings and retirements of our long-term HIV survivors.

As we celebrate the increased LGBTQ+ diversity in the House Democratic Caucus and the broader LGBTQIA+ community, there are some Republicans in the Senate that have spoken the quiet part out loud - the party of ‘pro-life’ says they don’t care about cuts to healthcare represented in their Big, Ugly Bill because we all “are going to die anyway.” It’s the job of elected officials to keep constituents alive, not sacrifice their lives for tax cuts for the ultra-rich.

I have been proud to lead Congress’s response to HIV/AIDS, including securing billions for treatment, prevention, community-based models of care, and research for a cure here at home and abroad, as well as providing affordable housing for low-income HIV survivors through HOPWA and expanding access to quality, affordable health care for those affected.

Under the short tenure of Trump Administration, they and Congressional Republicans have:

  • Worked to water down protections against LGBTQ+ discrimination;

  • Worked to erase LGBTQ+ people from our government and our history;

  • Worked to restrict vital health care for LGBTQ+ Americans;

  • Banned transgender Americans from serving our country in uniform;

  • Reportedly decided to rename the USNS Harvey Milk and other ships in the Navy’s John Lewis-class of replenishment oilers.

And we’re fighting them every step of the way! We must remember, when the Trump Administration attacks our LGBTQ+ friends and family, they are attacking all of us.

Our outside mobilization, phone calls, and determination to celebrate joy, diversity, innovation and progress – even in moments like these when our healthcare and resources are in danger of being eliminated – is why we must continue to fight against the Big, Ugly Bill.

Join our phone banks at SaveOurHealthCare.org.

Happy Pride to all!
