Help Democrats Take Back The House!
Dear Friends,
Here they go again. Republicans are fighting to make billionaires even richer by making hardworking Americans sicker and poorer as Democrats are fighting for working families,. During the President’s disastrous first term, the only major Republican bill that the Republicans passed and he signed into law was a GOP Tax Scam that gave 83% of the benefits to the top 1% and added more than $2 trillion to the national debt.
The Republicans’ Reverse Robin Hood Scam making its way through the Congress now would take from those with the least and give it to those who already have the most. Just yesterday, House Republicans voted to cut $700 billion from Medicaid, $500 billion from Medicare, along with $300 billion from SNAP – literally taking food out of the mouths of babies. The impacts of Trump and Republicans’ Big Ugly Bill will hurt America’s children, seniors, veterans, people with disabilities, working families and rural communities that will see many of their hospitals close. And the harm from the Republicans’ monstrous budget will land squarely on the backs of our nation’s most vulnerable – or what Republicans are calling “waste, fraud and abuse.”
Republicans ripping health care from 14 million Americans to make billionaires richer is sinful.
Republicans forcing millions of hungry kids and working families to go without food is abhorrent and a betrayal of the Gospel of Matthew: “When I was hungry, you fed me.”
For Republicans to bring harm to millions of the most vulnerable Americans as they give massive tax breaks to their billionaire donors like Elon Musk is reprehensible.
Republicans think they can pray in their houses of worship on Sunday and then prey on the most vulnerable among us during the week, without the American people knowing. But make no mistake about it, friends – we have been sounding the alarm to make sure that people know. And when people know, Republicans will lose the House in 2026.
Inspired by the example of Pope Francis and responding to Pope Leo XIV’s plea for unity and care for the vulnerable, my House Democratic colleagues and I have been working relentlessly to stop House Republicans from ripping away our health care to give tax breaks to Trump’s billionaire MAGA donors and Elon Musk.
Our amazing Team Pelosi grassroots Volunteers in Politics in San Francisco and across America have been making calls for months to help constituents in the districts of vulnerable House Republicans connect with these members to demand that they defend Medicaid – or prepare to lose their seats.
In the 48 hours before the Republicans’ awful vote, we intensified our efforts as Republicans were determined to push through their bill before the weekend. We rallied, we mobilized, and we organized emergency phone banks in addition to our regular phone banks with our grassroots community and coalition partners to fight back against the Republicans’ Big Ugly bill and its devastating implications for families and the most vulnerable Americans. While Republicans were pushing through their cruel bill in the dark of night, I was especially proud to speak on the House Floor on behalf of the people of San Francisco – defending our community and the 100,000 San Franciscans specifically at risk of losing their health care.
Although the Republicans’ horrendous bill narrowly passed the House, our fight to stop it in the House is not over yet. You read that right, friends. Any change in the bill in the Senate will require a new vote in the House – and that’s why we have keep up the pressure on vulnerable House Republicans who may not care about the people’s pain but care about their own prospects for re-election.
