News From Nancy: Our Vote is Our Voice
Help Democrats Take Back The House!
Dear Friends,
Today, I proudly voted for Connie Chan for Congress, with my colleague and friend, Senator Adam Schiff, and joined by John Doherty of the IBEW. It is personally meaningful to me that we gathered at North Beach Library because my very first role in public service was on the San Francisco Library Commission. Connie’s story is the American dream: coming to this country as a young girl, learning English in public schools and watching her mother build a better life through education and hard work.
Supporting Connie Chan represents a new course for our city and our country. She is a leader of courage, conviction, and results — and the leader best prepared to carry forward the fight for the future of San Francisco in Washington.
With Election Day four days away, let’s remember that every hour matters. Every conversation matters. And every vote matters. Join us for our GOTV kickoff this Saturday, May 30th, at 9:30 am PT at 55 Fillmore — RSVP here. We need you to come out for the final Get Out the Vote push for Connie this weekend and all the way until Tuesday!
America’s strength is our diversity, and our unity is our power. As we near the end of May, I’d like to make special mention of both AAPI Heritage Month and Jewish American Heritage Month, and to celebrate these two communities whose contributions are vital to our beloved city of San Francisco and our nation.
Throughout our history, Asian Pacific Americans' energy, entrepreneurial spirit, courage and patriotism have strengthened our nation's foundation and made America more American. This is especially true in San Francisco, where we are particularly blessed by the vibrant and growing AAPI community.
Generations of AAPI men and women endured unspeakable hardships and overcame repeated injustices. Yet, through it all, they continue to defend and shape our nation with pride, advancing a freer, more just and equal future for themselves, their children and all Americans. As we express our gratitude for the AAPI community’s enduring contributions to our nation, let us rededicate ourselves to protecting our heritage as a nation of immigrants and to ensuring that all people have the opportunity to pursue the American Dream.
At this time of surging anti-Semitism and hatred, we must fight hate in all its forms and take care of one another. And in times such as these, let us lean into the wisdom of the Jewish faith and seek to repair the world. As Jewish American Heritage Month draws to a close, I send Shabbat greetings to our Jewish leaders in Congress and to Jewish communities and families in San Francisco and across the country.
Thank you for all you are doing for our country, our Constitution, and for one another.
We don’t agonize, we organize — let’s get out the vote!
