News From Nancy: Women Will Be The Wave

Help Democrats Take Back The House!

Dear Friends,

Tuesday, June 2nd, marked the anniversary of my swearing-in as a Member of Congress in 1987. At that time there were only 23 women Members of the House, 12 Democrats and 11 Republicans — among the 435 Representatives of the House. Shocking! As a former Chair of the California Democratic Party, I made it a mission to elect more women. Today, I am happy to say there are 96 Democratic women House members — and we want more!

Also on Tuesday, June 2nd, Connie Chan won a spot on the November ballot for Congress. Because I believe that she would be the best Representative for San Francisco, I enthusiastically support her candidacy. Because she happens to be a woman and a mom makes it even more exciting to campaign for her.

This week, I was also thrilled and honored to participate in a conversation on our nation’s Unfinished Business with Academy Award-winning actress and producer Octavia Spencer and my dear friend, Secretary Hillary Rodham Clinton, in support of electing Democratic women to leadership. Nearly 2,000 people from 46 states joined us to discuss not only how to get more women into seats at the table — but at the head of the table!

It has been a great privilege to serve in the House, which our Founders envisioned as a check on the Executive. This week, House Democrats acted to end the illegal war of choice with Iran that has made prices surge, reduced America's standing in the world, and cost the lives of our precious service members — all caused by Donald Trump and supported by his MAGA enablers in Congress. We won the Iran vote and also a bipartisan vote to send long overdue security support to Ukraine and pass sanctions on Russia.

As we support Democracy at home and abroad, we do so by winning at the kitchen table — bringing down the cost of living, making health care more affordable, and holding the Administration accountable for its unprecedented corruption. Speaker Hakeem Jeffries will lead the way.

And to end on a positive note, Happy Pride Month! During Pride, we celebrate love, freedom, community and the courage to live authentically. From San Francisco to communities across the nation, we honor the trailblazers and activists who expanded the promise of equality for all.

Thank you for everything — again and again,

NANCY
